  • Quick Answer: Heather Glenn becomes the new Muse in Season 3 to address PTSD, following showrunner Dario Scardapane’s decision to give the villainous identity more narrative weight.

Muse died in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, but the villain is set to return in the third season for a major redemption arc.

Following the big Season 2 finale, with Matt Murdock in prison and Wilson Fisk in exile, the series appears poised for a soft reset for several characters, including Heather Glenn, played by Margarita Levieva.

After nearly being killed by Muse, the Season 2 ending revealed that Heather would now wear the killer’s mask, effectively resurrecting the character.

Muse was introduced as Bastian Cooper in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. A disturbed artist and serial killer, he’s Heather’s patient who creates gruesome murals across New York City using his victims’ blood.

In Episode 7, “Art for Art’s Sake,” he lures Heather in to use her as the subject of his final masterpiece. He ties her up and prepares to kill her, but Daredevil interrupts and fights Muse.

Thankfully, Heather manages to break free and shoots Muse, killing him in the process before he can murder her.

However, after feeling the character was not given proper justice, showrunner Dario Scardapane now believes there is a need to bring Muse back in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 through Heather due to the limitations surrounding the villain’s original storyline.

“This was a weird one because it had to do with a plot line that we inherited, that I felt we didn't do justice to: the original Muse storyline in season 1,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “Because of what was filmed and what wasn't filmed and what we could use and not use, it didn't have the heft that I thought Muse deserved.”

With Heather suffering from trauma after nearly being murdered, Dario Scardapane became very interested in how the psychologist would cope while existing in the same world as Daredevil and Wilson Fisk.

In fact, in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, she keeps the bloodstained mask of Muse after he attacks her. As she struggles with PTSD, Heather begins spiraling into a darker, more volatile mental state.

“In her mind, she started to confuse serial killers with vigilantes and became a press mouthpiece for Fisk,” Scardapane revealed. “What happens if she literally puts on that trauma, and that trauma solves a lot of her conflict?”

The showrunner then discussed the storyline with Margarita Levieva and found it to be a natural progression for the character, ultimately leading to the rise of a new Muse.

“Now you have the character development of, why would she become this thing? Why would she go to such a dark place?” he continued.

With this new direction for Heather’s character, Dario Scardapane teased that “I don't think anybody's prepared exactly for where this is going, and that's still fun” in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3.
