Fans rejoiced when Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio made their MCU debuts, and now the two are ready to come back for a new Daredevil series, Born Again, which is set in the established 616 timeline.
Though the series is expected to be a reboot, fans are curious how much of the original series Born Again will keep. If anything, the stars of the show give fans a little hint.
Daredevil: Born Again Cast Hint at Connection to Original Show
The Born Again cast had a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, and Vincent D’Onofrio explained, "There are storylines that reach back to the original series… Where our characters are coming from, where we are, and where we’re going, some of those threads lead back."
Charlie Cox, on the other hand, talked about the props that they brought over to the new show from the original. He says, "The first day on set with Deborah [Ann Woll], myself, and Elden [Henson] was really special because the scene that was written was like a scene where we were reminiscing over old times and all the things we’ve done… And it just so happened that we shot that very early on and we hadn’t seen each other for years."
Cox goes on to explain a scene that felt very meta for them to shoot because the characters were reminiscing about items in the box while the actors were also remembering the time they were working on the show. Cox continues:
"It was stuff from the old [show]. It was like a photo frame we used on a set eight years ago, and we were looking at it together — well, I wasn’t looking at it. But we were reminiscing over it, and it was sweet. It was kind of a little bit of life imitating art."
Born Again Original Plans
Originally, Born Again was said to have been developed like a miniseries, with a whole season treated like one long film. Luckily for the fans, though, Disney and Marvel decided to scrap that idea and reboot the series from the ground up, going the more traditional route when it comes to television.
The results of this reboot were said to have brought back Karen Page (Woll) and Foggy Nelson (Henson), who were said to have been originally killed off in the initial Born Again outline—giving Matt his drive to go after Kingpin.
It’s not clear exactly what changed in the re-development, but it’s speculated that the series is now aiming for a more sustainable run as compared to the limited series approach that Marvel had been doing with its earlier Disney+ series like WandaVision, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Moon Knight.
With Marvel slowly making reveals for Daredevil: Born Again, there is hope that they could drop the trailer for the first season before the year ends. Fingers crossed there’s room for crossovers with other Marvel Knights like Ghost Rider or Moon Knight.
Daredevil: Born Again is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime next year.
