Daisy Ridley Says Mark Hamill Felt Like the Original Luke Skywalker in The Rise of Skywalker

It looks like Daisy Ridley prefers Mark Hamill's rendition of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker than in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Lucasfilm released The Rise of Skywalker on Blu-Ray and DVD last week, and in the making-of documentary included in Episode IX's home media release, fans get to see a segment about Mark Hamill's return as everyone's favorite Jedi (via Screen Rant).

In the segment, Ridley talks about Hamill's return, saying that The Rise of Skywalker's version of Luke is actually more in tune with the hero that fans have come to love and know in Lucasfilm's original Star Wars trilogy. The actress takes note of how comforting it may have been for Hamill to return to the old version of Luke after becoming a jaded cynic who decided to isolate himself in The Force Awakens and in The Last Jedi.

"It was probably nice for Mark to be more like the Luke of old. Which I think JJ felt like he really wanted that. It was nice to feel - and even in the scene - to feel really comforted that like [takes big sigh of relief] ‘Luke Skywalker is here,'" the actress says in the documentary.

While it may seem that Ridley is throwing shade at The Last Jedi for its rendition of Luke, fans have to remember that George Lucas was the one who created a story where Luke would isolate himself from the rest of the world. Luke Skywalker might be a hero, but he's a human too, and humans make mistakes. The important thing is that Luke decided to rise above his mistakes and redeem himself at the end in The Last Jedi. This is probably why Luke is very much at peace with himself in The Rise of Skywalker.

What do you think? Did you prefer Luke in Episode IX or in Episode VIII? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
