Star Wars is Still Releasing Its First New Film in 2022 Despite Major Coronavirus Delays

The spread of the novel coronavirus might have forced Hollywood to shutdown major film productions and delay the release of highly anticipated titles, but it looks like Disney is still set on releasing its first Star Wars movie after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in December 2022.

Disney just recently revealed its revised release schedule for all of its upcoming films, and while most of the House of Mouse's releases have been shifted accordingly, it seems like Lucasfilm still has its Untitled Star Wars movie listed for its December 16, 2022 release.

This film was originally meant for Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, however, the two exited the project in October 2019 to focus on their work with Netflix. Right now it's unclear whether the film scheduled for 2022 is the same project that Benioff and Weiss left behind.

We're not entirely sure what Lucasfilm has planned for its 2022 Star Wars movie either. Lucasfilm has been awfully quiet about its plans for the Star Wars film franchise. All we all know right now that the film is going to be the beginning of a chapter outside of the Skywalker saga. The Rise of Skywalker culminated the Skywalker family story, and now it's time for the galaxy far, far away to explore the narratives of a new set of heroes.

Hopefully the film's production won't be affected by this year's coronavirus outbreak. We can only hope that the pandemic slows down by the start of summer.
