Daisy Ridley Opens Up About Dark Rey In Star Wars: Episode IX’s New Trailer

Star Wars fans went wild yesterday when Lucasfilm dropped a brand new trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Sure, three-fourths of the video was made up of footage from all the previous entries in the Skywalker Saga, but the trailer did offer some pretty exciting clips from Episode IX.

Not only did we get to see Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Isaac) head to a new desert planet in Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away, but we also got to see Rey finally come face to face with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). What's even more exciting is the scene where we see Rey turn to the Dark Side. Covered in a dark hood like a Sith would, Rey carries a red lightsaber which she flips, revealing a weapon reminiscent of Darth Maul's double-edged lightsaber in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

The new Star Wars trailer drove the community wild. Would Rey really turn to the Dark Side?

Speaking in an interview with Yahoo! during this year's D23 Expo, Ridley was asked whether or not Rey was really going to turn away from the Light Side in Episode IX. The British actress tried to play coy, saying that fans have to take the video as they will.

"I mean, the evidence is on the screen. Take that evidence as you will," Ridley told the news outlet, "But there's no smoke without fire."

Lucasfilm really is planning a lot for Episode IX, something which shouldn't really come as a surprise to the fanbase. There's a lot riding on The Rise of Skywalker. Not only is the film supposed to close the studio's Star Wars sequel trilogy, but it's also supposed to culminate the entire Skywalker saga. Lucasfilm has to get Episode IX right.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to premiere on December 20, 2019.
