Daisy Ridley Believes That Rey Doesn’t Have Any Weaknesses

Every great character has a set of weaknesses to overcome, but to Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley, the Star Wars sequel trilogy's Rey doesn't really have any sort of flaw.

Ridley just recently joined a Facebook Live event meant to help promote the digital release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and during the discussion the British actress was asked about her character's flaws.

"I don't really believe in weaknesses in people. Because I think you can't decide what's good and what's bad in a person because everything makes the whole and the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, as we know. I for sure think people can work on themselves, with things like anger and jealousy, maybe things like that, but that's workable, that's not something that's fixed that can't be changed. You can work on that. And I don't think she's those things."

During Rey's debut in The Force Awakens, fans complained that Lucasfilm's Jakku Orphan was a bit too perfect and much like a Mary Sue. The Last Jedi decided to give the character depth, focusing on Rey's struggle to find out more about herself and her parents.

Of course, Ridley doesn't necessarily mean that Rey is perfect. What the actress meant during the interview was that she doesn't necessarily believe in weakness, saying that it's all part of the human condition, and that these supposed "weaknesses" are things that one can change. Even Rey.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Digital HD release is on March 13. The film's Blu-Ray and DVD release hits March 27.
