After less than a week since the series’ release, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is officially one of the best video game adaptations of all time according to Rotten Tomatoes.

Shortly after the show’s release, Rotten Tomatoes released a list of the best video game TV shows ranked by their Tomatometer score.

In case you’re unfamiliar, the Tomatometer is Rotten Tomatoes’ review metric which represents the percentage of reviews that were positive for a movie or TV show.

For instance, a show with a 100% rating means all the reviews are positive, not that all reviews gave it a perfect score.

In the Rotten Tomatoes list, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is ranked number 2 with a 100% rating, just behind last year’s hit animated show, Arcane.

Reviews for the new Cyberpunk anime are all positive, with critics praising the show’s story and animation courtesy of studio Trigger.

This reception should be a pleasant surprise for fans, especially considering the mixed reception of the Cyberpunk 2077 game when it was released.

Aside from critical acclaim, viewers have also showered the show with praise. The series also got enough views to crack the Netflix Top 10 list in over 30 countries.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an anime series by Trigger and CD Projekt RED. It’s based on CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 video game which was released in December 2020.

The show is directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, and he is joined by Yoh Yoshinari handling character design and animation direction. Serving as the showrunner is Rafał Jaki from CD Projekt RED.

Meanwhile, the show’s Japanese cast includes Yuuki Aoi, Tomoro Kurosawa, KENN, Hiroki Touchi, Michiko Kaiden, Takako Honda, Wataru Takagi, and Kazuhiko Inoue.

Its story follows David Martinez, a street kid who becomes an edgerunner – a mercenary outlaw in Night City.

As an edgerunner, he comes across various colorful characters from Night City, including netrunner Lucy along with Maine and his mercenary crew.

Given the show’s success, the game that it’s based on received renewed interest. And while it’s confirmed to be canon in the Cyberpunk universe, you don’t need to play the game to understand its story.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners consists of 10 episodes, all of which are now streaming on Netflix.
