Aside from being praised by critics online, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a certified hit as it reached the Netflix Top 10 in over 30 countries in the days following its release last week.
According to Flixpatrol, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners from studio Trigger reached the Netflix Top 10 in 37 countries, including the US, the UK, Japan, Thailand, France, and more.
While it did not reach the number 1 spot, the show did break through to the top 5 in countries such as Japan, Estonia, and Bulgaria.
This result is impressive overall given how the game it is based on had a mixed reception when it was originally launched.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an anime series by Trigger and CD Projekt RED that’s based on the Cyberpunk 2077 video game which was released in December 2020. The game itself is based on Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk tabletop role-playing game which was released back in 1988.
The show is directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi who is joined by character designer and animation director Yoh Yoshinari.
Meanwhile, the show’s Japanese voice cast includes Yuuki Aoi, KENN, Tomoyo Kurosawa, Hiroki Touchi, and more.
Its story follows David, a street kid trying to survive in Night City. Early in the story, David becomes an edgerunner – a mercenary outlaw. He soon meets various characters from Night City, including netrunner Lucy, as well as other mercenaries.
Thanks to the show’s popularity, there has been a renewed interest in Cyberpunk 2077.
Days after the show’s premiere, Cyberpunk 2077 is once again among the most played games on Steam.
Based on Steam stats, the game is reaching over 80,000 concurrent players in a day.

In a tweet by CD Projekt RED Global PR director Radek Grabowski, he shared that the anime is now the second-highest-rated video game TV show on Rotten tomatoes.
The only series that is rated higher is last year’s Arcane, an animated show that’s considered one of the best of 2021.
From the looks of it, Edgerunners may have a strong case for being one of the best animated series of 2022.
In fact, it has already been called one of the best shows of the year by notable anime content creator, Gigguk.
This view is also reflected in other critic reviews, as well as fan responses to the show online, most if not all of which are highly positive.
The only real complaint about the series is the quality of the English subtitles.
