Crunchyroll is one of the go-to platforms for anime lovers with its massive library of shows, along with timely seasonal releases. Now, Crunchyroll is lowering its prices in nearly 100 countries.
Specifically, Crunchyroll has announced that the cost of Crunchyroll Premium memberships is reduced in almost 100 territories.
For example, the Mega Fan fee in the UK has changed from GBP 7.99 to GBP 5.99.
Meanwhile, other countries which used to be charged in USD are now charged in the local currency. One example is India where the Mega Fan membership is now priced at INR 99 (roughly USD 1.24) instead of USD 9.99.

While the membership cost is lowered in these countries, the US is not part of the list. This means Crunchyroll Premium Membership in the US still has a starting price of USD 7.99 and a Mega Fan tier price of USD 9.99.
Crunchyroll is one of the most popular anime streaming services and is a go-to for anime fans in countries outside Japan and East Asia.

However, it's been widely reported that streaming services are struggling with increased competition in the market. Netflix's issues and its impact on animation have been well-documented, with the streaming giant actively pursuing cheaper subscription tiers and new markets.
In 2021, Sony completed its acquisition of Crunchyroll. After the acquisition, Sony began to merge Crunchyroll with Funimation, its previously acquired anime streaming service.
Recent anime seasons have seen HIDIVE, a likely competitor to Crunchyroll, acquiring more popular titles.
