Zach Gilford teases the upcoming Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 16 Episode 9. Though the show will return with Episode 6 this month, the penultimate episode will see some characters making shocking decisions.

The show took its holiday hiatus on December 15 after the airing of Episode 5, Oedipus Wrecks. That said, expect another intense turn of events when Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 16 Episode 6 drops next week.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 16 Episode 9 Spoilers

Fans have been looking forward to seeing the fates of Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) and JJ (AJ Cook) after being caught in the explosive Elias Voit (Gilford) has prepared for them following the midseason finale.

After that major cliffhanger, it looks like a lot more is about to happen in the series.

Gilford told TVLine that fans would be surprised to see some characters’ surprising choices and decisions in the series’ penultimate episode.

“You can tell you’re getting to the end [of the season] because everything’s starting to kind of potentially unravel,” he teased. “People start making decisions they wouldn’t normally make, that I think will surprise the audience but also surprise these characters.”

Sadly, Gilford didn’t give any ideas on what these decisions could be and who were the characters involved.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 16 Midseason Finale Cliffhanger

Unsurprisingly, the show’s midseason ended with a major cliffhanger. Nobody knows what happens to Luke and JJ after the explosion, though many hope and think they’re still alive.

In an interview with Decider, showrunner Erica Messer revealed they really made the show feature Elias winning against the BAU for the first five episodes.

However, there will be a huge twist after that.

“And then in the last five, the tables turn a little bit, and he starts devolving a bit,” she said. “And that’s when the BAU can always find out more because the unsub starts making mistakes.”

Talking about the serial killers this season, Messer had nothing but good words for all of them, but one stood out.

“They’re all amazing, and they all bring such a cool new texture to the show. I can’t pick a favorite, but I am really excited for you to meet to get to know Cyrus a little bit more,” she continued. “Also, in episode four, when he is cleaning up the blood, he has that flash of someone, and you don’t really know who it is, but we’ll learn a lot more about him in the second half of the season.”

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 16 will return with Episode 6 on January 12, while Episode 9 will be out on February 2.
