Crash Team Racing Will Soon Be a Great Game with Microtransactions

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is getting its next big update on August 2 and fans can't wait to play the latest Grand Prix, which revolves around a great prehistoric track filled with dinosaurs. Players will also be able to earn Baby Crash and Baby Coco as playable characters, along with the adorable baby T-Rex from Crash Bandicoot: Warped. However, for all the good things that will be coming to the game, one horrible addition may have tarnished it; microtransactions.

That's right, Activision quietly announced that players will be able to purchase Wumpa Coins so that they will be able to purchase characters and karts in the future. It's a pretty disappointing addition, though it's one that we should have seen coming; it explains why the game gives players such a paltry amount when playing in single-player or local co-op.

Here's what the press blog had to say:

"Starting in early August, players will have the option to purchase Wumpa Coin bundles from their game console stores to supplement the Coins they earn by playing. This option won't change the game's core mechanics – players will still earn Wumpa Coins by playing the game in any mode, just as before. They will just be able to purchase additional coins if they choose."

At the least, fans will be able to ignore the microtransactions and play the game their way. If it means anything, more Wumpa Coins can be earned when playing online; even when you lose, Definitely give it a shot since online play can be crazy competitive.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Despite the addition of microtransactions, this is a very good game and one of the best racing titles out right now.
