Cowboy Bebop Showrunner Teases Julia's Role, Teases Ed's Arrival

Cowboy Bebop fans already know that Julia will show up in Netflix's live-action adaptation. But it looks like Spike Spiegel's beloved will have more than just a fleeting cameo in the new show. Andre Nemec has revealed that Julia is set for a significant role in the upcoming anime adaptation. In addition to that, the showrunner addressed Ed's appearance in the project.

Julia is undoubtedly one of the biggest mysteries in Cowboy Bebop. In the anime, she captures Spike's heart before disappearing, leading the bounty hunter to go on a hunt searching for her.

Interestingly, Elena Satine's version of Julia will be more than just an absentee sweetheart in the live-action Cowboy Bebop. Nemec told Polygon that they had written a meatier role for the character in the show.

"In the anime, she's almost more of an idea than a character. So we mined what we could from the information that we had and we built out who these people were," Nemec said.

This is an interesting reveal and we're hoping it would explain a bit more about the mysterious character. Although we are already expecting Julia to show up, it's still unclear if fan favorite Ed will make an appearance. Nevertheless, Nemec has an awesome tease about Ein's favorite human.

"Ed — everybody wants to know about Ed!" Nemec exclaimed before dropping a cryptic comment. "People will be ... very delighted when they watch the season."

We're hoping that means that Ed will be the big surprise in Cowboy Bebop Season 1. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

Cowboy Bebop also stars John Cho as Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine, and Alex Hassell as Vicious. The show's first season will consist of 10 episodes and is scheduled for release on November 19, 2021.
