Could Plastic Man Be The Deadpool Of The DCEU?

DC might not have a direct Deadpool equivalent, but Ben Schwartz thinks that Plastic Man might do the trick.

Sonic the Hedgehog star Ben Schwartz has been campaigning for the role of Plastic Man ever since word broke out that Warner Brothers was developing a DC Extended Universe movie on the extremely stretchable DC superhero and it looks like the actor isn't giving up.

Speaking in an interview with CB (via Geek Tyrant), Schwartz pitches Plastic Man as the Deadpool of the DCEU, saying that the hero could have the right character traits to become the franchise's version of the R-Rated Merc with a Mouth.

"If you look at the original Plastic Man, he's a thief, he gets these superpowers, and then he uses his connections with being in the crooked world to aid the police," the actor explained, "But in my head, how much fun if he was a thief, got superpowers, and was like, ‘Screw it, I want to keep being crooked.' But he's also if you look at the cartoons or the other iterations of him, he's funny! He's so funny. And I think what Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller did with Deadpool, you could have a funny superhero in DC. Shazam! just did it and I think it's gonna be great. That's it, I just love that character a lot. I think I'd get to be goofy if I ever got the chance to do it."

Plastic Man might not have been particularly popular compared to other major heroes in the DCEU, Schwartz does have a point. After all, the character's comic book adventures were always quirky and offbeat. Sure, he might not have the 4th wall-breaking abilities of Deadpool, but the surreal slapstick humor surrounding the character would make for good laughs in the DCEU.
