Shazam! Has a Subtle Joke About The Former Captain Marvel Outselling Batman and Superman

Shazam! was one of the more fun DC movies released and was a pretty solid superhero film in its own right, actually being better than some Marvel movies. The movie was clearly marketed towards kids but the heart it showed, along with the really funny jokes, made it a good time and a step towards the right direction for the company.

There were a lot of easter eggs for fans to enjoy, whether they were fans of DC's version of the hero or the original Fawcett Comics iteration originally called Captain Marvel. However, there was a subtle joke that a lot of people might have just shrugged off as a cute moment.

During the final battle with Savannah, we see that bit from the trailers where a kid is playing with his Batman and Superman toys, making them collide at the same time Shazam and Savannah collide. The kid notices this, sees how cool Shazam is and drops his toys of Batman and Superman. A simple and cute moment right?

Well, people who know their comic book history might have chuckled over something else. Back in the days when Shazam was a Fawcett Comics property, the character would routinely outsell Batman and Superman comics. Amazing right? This led to DC Comics suing the company over how "similar" the character was to Superman, which led to the company buying the character.

However, the name "Captain Marvel" wasn't trademarked during the lawsuit and Marvel ended up doing that. The rest is history.

Shazam is now showing in theaters.
