Colin Trevorrow Addresses Alleged Origin Story for Rey in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Earlier this year, a popular Star Wars fansite revealed "exclusive" details about Rey's (Daisy Ridley) true parentage from what the site claims to be an early script for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker by the original director, Colin Trevorrow.

Even though Trevorrow was swapped out for J.J. Abrams because of creative differences with Lucasfilm, some speculated that elements of the early script draft could have made it into the current version of The Rise of Skywalker.

Now, it looks like Trevorrow's decided to debunk those rumors, taking to social media to respond to the stories about his so-called take on Rey's parentage.

"Yikes, that's rough. Normally I'd say nothing, but not a single thing in here was ever in any screenplay Derek and I wrote. Not one thing. All the best to you guys," the director wrote on a post on Twitter.

For those curious about the original leak that circulated online, Making Star Wars shared a story where the "unmade Trevorrow/Connolly Star Wars: Episode IX story" had an origin for Rey where the Jakku Orphan wasn't the daughter of anyone important but instead the child of a woman who was once a "cook, housemaid, and once nanny to Ben Solo."

It would have been an interesting origin, yes, but Trevorrow's pretty sure that's not what he originally wrote for the movie. Even if it was, we doubt that Abrams would incorporate it in his version of Episode IX. The moral of the story is – fans shouldn't really believe everything they see on the internet.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
