Following the first film’s release in Japanese cinemas, Disney+ announced the Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture streaming release date along with its streaming schedule.

In Japan, this new Code Geass anime is a four-part film series, with the first part coming out earlier this month. The next three films will be released in June, July, and August, respectively.

Instead of being released as films though, the Rozé of the Recapture anime will be split into standard TV anime-length episodes for its worldwide streaming release.

Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture Release Date Announced

Code Geass is one of the most iconic anime of the 2000s, and it has gotten a lot of praise for its unique blend of alternative history and mecha action.

Even though the anime’s two seasons were big hits, there has been no proper sequel series. That’s not to say that the franchise has gotten no new entries.

Back in 2016, the Lelouch of the Re;surrection movie was released, and it’s a follow-up to the three-part compilation film series set in a different timeline from the original.

In December 2020, the Z of the Recapture movie was announced, and this soon became the Rozé of the Recapture film series.

With the first part getting released in Japanese cinemas on May 10, the anime’s streaming release was confirmed to begin on June 21 as a 12-episode show. It will be available to stream worldwide on Disney+.

Explaining Rozé of the Recapture’s Disney+ Release Schedule

Instead of getting all 12 episodes in one day, the anime will get one new episode every week. As there are 12 episodes, the show is expected to end in early September 2024.

From the looks of it, the 12 episodes will feature the entire four-part film series, with each film expected to be split into three episodes.

A TV-size cut of an anime film is a fairly common release strategy. For instance, the same happened with the Sand Land movie along with the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train film.

Many of these episode versions come with new scenes, though it’s not clear if the new Code Geass series will have scenes not shown in the theatrical cuts.

What Is the New Code Geass Anime All About?

Rozé of the Recapture is essentially a sequel to the Lelouch of the Re;surrection movie, albeit featuring a new cast. As such, the newest anime in the franchise is not related to the original TV series.

Given that it is a canon entry in the new movie timeline, fans who want to watch it will need to have seen the previous compilation films and the Re;surrection movie for the best experience.
