The UK government will award a knighthood to acclaimed director Christopher Nolan together with a damehood for his wife, producer Emma Nolan.
Christopher Nolan received acclaim earlier this month when he received an Academy Award for Best Director from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences for his work on Oppenheimer.
To honor this achievement and others, the Dark Knight director is set to be knighted by the royal family of the United Kingdom.
The BBC reported that the knighthood is to honor Nolan’s work in the filmmaking industry. His wife, Emma, is also due to receive a damehood at the same time as her husband.
Aside from bagging Nolan his first Oscar for Best Director, Oppenheimer also won multiple awards from the body including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role for Cillian Murphy, Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Robert Downey Jr., Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score.
During his acceptance speech for Best Picture, Nolan expressed his disbelief at having won the award after so many nominations in the past.
"I think any of us who make movies dream of this moment. But it seemed so unlikely that it would ever actually happen," he said.
Nolan had been nominated several times both for Best Picture and Best Director in the past, but fell short of winning the award. His Batman film, Dark Knight, was also skipped by the awards body for Best Picture and Director and it ultimately became a catalyst for change in the nomination process.
