Fans were quite surprised when Chris Pine wasn't able to reach a deal with Paramount Pictures to work on Star Trek 4. Pine has been James T. Kirk for three films now and it would be hard to imagine a new Star Trek movie without him. Just when it seemed like everything was said and done, Pine himself reveals that he's still interested in the role.
During a brief interview with Variety, Pine revealed that he would love to be in the next Star Trek movie and that he's waiting for "the phone call." This means that he is still willing to negotiate a return, which can only mean good things for fans of Pine and this film series.
While the movies do have other interesting characters like Spock, Kirk's absence in a potential sequel would be felt and fans aren't going to be pleased with whatever reason they come up with. It's good that Pine is still interested and we can only hope that the next round of negotiations will lead to a result that pleases both parties.
Star Trek 4 has a lot of fans interested in it since the movie will be directed by Jessica Jones alumni S.J. Clarkson and will follow Star Trek: Beyond, the worst-performing film of the current trilogy, even if it was better than the first two. No release date for the film has been revealed.
