Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Catches Trouble with Actual Satanic Temple

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina had just premiered on Netflix, and it's already getting some sparkling reviews from critics. Ironically though, for all the ‘Satan worship' that the series promotes, the show has actually gotten into some trouble with the actual Satanic temple.

According to The Wrap, the show has come under fire for ‘appropriating' a statue of Baphomet, which is prominently shown in Sabrina's school of the Unseen Arts. The specific statue is apparently copyrighted by the Satanic Temple, and the temple co-founder Lucien Greaves has threatened to take ‘legal action' against Netflix.

Greaves tweeted:

"Yes, we are taking legal action regarding #TheChillingAdventuresofSabrina appropriating our copyrighted monument design to promote their asinine Satanic Panic fiction."

For now, there hasn't been any official statement from the showrunners or Netflix, but I can imagine that they would just remove the statue from the show moving forward. I mean, how many more royalty free Baphomet statues can they find out there?

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been getting a lot of praise from critics since its release, and a lot of people are loving this darker take on the Spellmans and their world of magic. If anything, the show is oddly lighthearted for the premise, and it might look identical to the original series—just replace the silly spells and magic with satanic covens and blood sacrifices.

Ironically, I expected most of the backlash of this show to come from angry Christians, but now it's coming from angry Satanists.

Catch The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina now on Netflix.
