The most recent episode of Chicago P.D. Season 9 ended on a cliffhanger. Javier Escano has been pursued by the Intelligence Unit. Upton and Halstead were keeping an eye on one of Escano's men at the end of the episode.
The episode finished with Upton's fate uncertain after a massive explosion shook the parking lot. However, a cast member has dropped a hint that Upton will be fine.
Chicago P.D. Season 9: Upton takes a blow
Anna Avalos has been working undercover for months in Chicago P.D. Season 9, and it's beginning to wear on her. The Intelligence Unit saves a lady who was attacked during a Los Temidos initiation in Episode 21.
Something similar happened to Anna, and Escano may have even ordered her rape. Voight, on the other hand, conceals this information from her.
When Anna discovers the truth, she goes rogue in the hopes of bringing Escano down. Meanwhile, Ruzek, Upton, and Halstead continue to keep an eye on Escano's men.
Upton and Halstead stand in the back of a vehicle, watching a man close himself in. The two proceed to confront the man, who flees. A massive explosion rattles the parking lot. Halstead emerges reasonably unscathed, but he notices Upton on the ground on the opposite side of the parking lot.
Cast hints Upton will survive blast
Despite the fact that Upton appears to be in bad shape in Chicago P.D. Season 9, a cast member says that she will be alright.
“Historically we’ve seen this unit take so much abuse whether it’s explosions, nine-millimeter bullets to the gut, car crashes, and accidents,” Atwater actor LaRoyce Hawkins told TV Insider.
Hawkins pointed out that “if anybody has Wolverine-like healing abilities, it’s Upton.”
But that’s just Hawkins’ opinion, and anything could happen. Still, we’re rooting for Upton.
Chicago P.D. Season 9 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
