Chewbacca Speaks English In Resurfaced Star Wars Footage

In the galaxy far, far away, there's always seems to be something new to see and discover every day especially for new fans of the franchise. Well, for today, we bring you a couple of videos of Chewbacca speaking English on the set of Star Wars: A New Hope as opposed to his iconic Wookiee talk.

The first clip, shared on Reddit by user king_klownzilla, features a scene during Leia's rescue, specifically when Han was confronting Luke about Ben and his craziness. "That old man is mad," he can be heard saying in the clip. Han agrees and proceeds to ask Luke where he "dug up that old fossil."

The second clip, this time from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Chewbacca is seen arguing with Han. "Where the hell have you been?" he asks him. Han Solo tells him not to lose his temper. When he sees him leaving again, Chewie asks "Where are you going?" and tells him that they should be leaving. Admittedly, it is pretty awesome to see this exchange especially since there are many times they banter and tell each other off.

Some fans would like to think that this is what Han hears when he speaks to his best friend while the rest simply hear his Shyriiwook, which definitely makes their friendship all the more special. Fans will remember that Han Solo can also speak Chewbacca's language as we see in Solo: A Star Wars Story. It is how he won him over.

The voice you're hearing in the clips is, of course, one other than that of the late Peter Mayhew. It is likely that this is how they were filmed so that Harrison Ford or whoever the actor's scene partner was knew when to say his or her line.

The reemergence of the clips may have been triggered by the news of his heartbreaking death last April. Mayhew played Chewbacca up until Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where he shared with and ultimately passed on the role to his successor Joonas Suotamo.
