Chewbacca Actor Peter Mayhew Reveals He's Undergone Spinal Surgery

You don't get to be as tall as Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew without a few problems. Just recently, Mayhew has revealed that he had undergone some spinal surgery. The good news is, he's fine and will be recovering for the next weeks.

Though Mayhew did reprise the role of Chewbacca in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the role has since been taken over by a Joonas Suotamo. It's worth noting that Mayhew is still taller than Suotamo, with the former standing at 2.18m while the latter is at 2.13m.

Even if Mayhew has passed the torch for the role, he still manages to be really welcoming when it comes to Star Wars fans. He still posts updates online, and likes to joke around—much like his co-star Mark Hamill. As for Mayhew successor Suotamo, he seems to be a pretty nice guy on and off the set. He was said to have taken an extensive "Wookiee Boot Camp" to prepare for the Chewbacca role, and it's fun to watch him joke around with his cast mates on Solo.

We should expect Suotamo to come back to Star Wars in Episode IX which is set to come out Dec. 20, 2019.
