Star Wars Fans Show Rose Tico Their Love And Support Through The #RoseForHope Cosplay Campaign

There was a lot of concern when Star Wars: The Last Jedi actress Kelly Marie Tran deleted her Instagram. The actress had endured months of bullying online with toxic Star Wars fans personally attacking her for her character, the Resistance maintenance worker Rose Tico.

Though it's perfectly understandable that not everyone might enjoy a character in any film or any other creative piece, personally attacking an actress goes over the line, and since then fans, Star Wars actors, and celebrities have come to defend Marie Tran.

Supporting Tran at this year's San Diego Comic-Con International, Star Wars fans got together to make a #RallyforRose and #RoseForHope campaign by cosplaying together as Rose Tico. Aside from costumes, other fans who enjoyed the campaign also decided to attend the convention wearing Rose Tico t-shirts in the slant of the Obama-style campaign logo. The campaign was organized by the Nerds of Color a fan community and website for fans who feel like they're less represented in media today.

The campaign is a pretty great move. Not only does it show support to Tran, but it also helps support diversity in Hollywood and media. It's pretty great seeing men and women come together and fight injustice and inequality in new and unique ways.

Lucasfilm's next movie, Star Wars: Episode IX, premieres on December 19, 2019.
