Say what you will about the Star Wars prequels, but we wouldn't have that iconic Duel of Mustafar between Anakin and Obi-Wan if it wasn't for Revenge of the Sith. For fans of that legendary battle, you'll love this new rare behind-the-scenes photo of Hayden Christensen in his full make-up for the most harrowing part of the battle.

Here he is without the lighting and post-production magic, purely the work of the amazing Star Wars costume and special effects team behind the film.

This is what Anakin looked like in the climax of the grueling fight wherein he is torched by lava. The aftermath also saw his legs and left arm dismembered. Admittedly, it still looks pretty gruesome in broad daylight, but not as it did on screen surely.

Fans including myself can't help but marvel at the special effects in the prequels and specifically in this entire battle sequence. While some weren't too thrilled about George Lucas relying too heavily on CGI rather than practical effects like he did in the original Star Wars trilogy, the work of the design team for this scene is still something to admire.

After Obi-Wan declares he has the high ground, Anakin fights through these horrific scars and burns. This image really takes you back to that pivotal moment. As if this frightening appearance wasn't enough, the scene was made powerful by the iconic Star Wars villain spouting his hate towards his old master and friend. This scene could easily be the defining moment of the film. It sticks with you long after watching it.

The photo is also a reminder of how brutal the prequels actually are underneath their visual appeal, especially Revenge of the Sith, in which Anakin killed the younglings and almost choked his wife Padme to death.

With the emergence of this epic photo, Star Wars could only hope that there's more where this photo came from.
