Despite having cast stars that were each a leader of large box office franchises, Doug Liman's Chaos Walking has had some behind-the-scenes problems and the movie was deemed ‘unreleasable'. While the film was set to come out in January, it looks like the studio has had a change of heart and will now have it release in March.
Here's the official announcement:
While some may think that a delay means that the film is terrible, that isn't always the case when it comes to the box office. Chaos Walking was originally set to come out in January which is considered a ‘dump month'; where studios release films they don't think will do well. Moving it to March could mean that the studio has gotten renewed faith in the project and will be releasing it around the time that blockbusters are usually released.
Then again, that ‘dump month' mentality only really works with the traditional setting of the box office. With the pandemic putting an emphasis on streaming services like Netflix and Disney+, a March release could bode different for Chaos Walking. I guess we'll really just have to wait and see to find out.
Chaos Walking is now set to release on March 5, 2021.
