2022 saw lots of memorable anime openings, though one stood out among the rest. In a new Japanese poll, it was revealed that Japanese anime fans consider the Chainsaw Man opening “Kick Back” to be their favorite of the year.
Kenshi Yonezu’s Kick Back
The Chainsaw Man opening was released ahead of the show’s premiere, and the song was instantly loved by many. After all, the song “Kick Back” is by Kenshi Yonezu, one of the most popular Japanese singers today.
Yonezu has also performed other anime songs, including My Hero Academia Season 2’s “Peace Sign.”
Aside from the Chainsaw Man opening song being catchy, lots of praise was also given to the opening’s creativity. Along with the fluid animation, it also went viral for the numerous movie references that fans spotted.
The opening continues to be popular enough that it is now the most-viewed video on MAPPA’s YouTube channel at 57 million views.

Top Anime Openings of 2022
Coming in at second place in the poll is the first Spy x Family opening “Mixed Nuts” by Higedan. Also in the top ten are openings of popular new shows such as Blue Lock, as well as the viral hit Ya Boy Kongming!
There are also some surprising results in the poll. For instance, the anime series Soreayu took third place with its opening song by Kana Hanazawa. Tiger & Bunny 2’s opening was also ranked highly.

- 6th place (tie): My Hero Academia Season 6 - "Hitamuki" by Super Beaver
- 6th place (tie): Heroines Run the Show - "Julietta" by LIP×LIP
- 8th place (tie): Ya Boy Kongming! - "Chikichiki Banban" by QUEENDOM
- 8th place (tie): Lycoris Recoil - "Alive" by ClariS
- 10th place (tie): Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury - "Shukufuku" by YOASOBI
- 10th place (tie): Bocchi the Rock! - "Seishun Complex" by Kessoku Band
The poll by AnimeAnime.jp asked respondents about their favorite anime opening of 2022. There were 331 respondents in total, with the split being 32.6% male and 64.7% female. Meanwhile, almost half of the respondents were aged 19 and below.
What’s interesting to note about the results is that eight out of the ten openings in the list are from new shows. Because of this, it’ll be interesting to see which openings make a splash in 2023.
