Chainsaw Man is being praised for its incredible animation and unpredictable story, though fans have also been giving praise to its soundtrack. If you’re curious about the soundtrack and how it was formed, Chainsaw Man composer Kensuke Ushio recently revealed his musical inspirations for the anime.
Recently, Ushio was featured on Milan Records. There, he shared some of the artists and specific tracks that inspired his Chainsaw Man score.
Fans of electronic music will likely see familiar artists in his list of influences.
Chainsaw Man Composer Kensuke Ushio and His Other Notable Works
In case you’re unfamiliar, Kensuke Ushio is a well-known Japanese composer who has worked on a wide range of popular anime titles.
But before his anime work, Ushio was part of the Japanese band, Lama.
Ushio began his anime composition career in 2014 when he created the soundtrack for Space Dandy and Ping Pong the Animation.
From there, Ushio was tapped to create music for more titles, including A Silent Voice, Devilman Crybaby, Liz and the Blue Bird, Japan Sinks: 2020, and Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop, among others.
His latest work is the soundtrack of Chainsaw Man, the ongoing anime series by MAPPA that’s based on the manga of the same name by Tatsuki Fujimoto.
It’s fair to say that Chainsaw Man is one of the most anticipated anime of the year, and it’s currently one of the biggest shows of the Fall 2022 season based on fan reactions online after a new episode is released.
Ushio’s soundtrack for the anime is mostly electronic with an experimental and ambient edge.
The artists that influenced the soundtrack have music that is reminiscent of Ushio’s latest work.

Kensuke Ushio Reveals Musical Influences for Chainsaw Man
Ushio shared his influences through a Spotify playlist that mixes Chainsaw Man songs and other songs that have influenced the score.
He also shared that many of these songs were the ones that influenced him when he was a teenager.
One of the biggest influences on the soundtrack is Aphex Twin, the British electronic music producer who is best known for his wide range of experimental electronic music.
Fans of Aphex Twin will likely hear the influences of his work on the anime’s soundtrack, especially on some tracks like the devil appears.
Another influence Ushio had is Squarepusher, an English electronic musician who is known for incorporating progressive jazz and drum and bass sounds into his tracks.
This eclectic mix of electronic music genres is similar to what Ushio did for Chainsaw Man’s music.
The first two parts of Ushio’s newest soundtrack are now streaming on Spotify.
