Chadwick Boseman Gets Emotional Telling Story About Two Terminally-Ill Kids Hoping To See Black Panther

There's a lot of excitement building up over Black Panther. Not only has the film topped every other Marvel film in terms of IMAX pre-sales and every other comic book movie in terms of advanced ticket sales, Black Panther's also tracking to have one of the biggest opening weekends for a standalone superhero film.

In an interview with Sirius XM, Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman talks about the support he's received from fans and gets emotional telling the story about two young boys with terminal illnesses waiting for the film to come out.

"All of it has been very personal, just watching the kids experience it," the Marvel star shared. "For me, I would say there are two little kids, Ian and Taylor, who recently passed from cancer. And throughout our filming, I was communicating with them, knowing that they were both terminal. What they said to me is, and their parents said, is they're trying to hold on until this movie comes."

Knowing how much Ian and Taylor were looking forward to Black Panther humbled and inspired Boseman, making him push himself harder so that he wouldn't disappoint them.

"To a certain degree, you hear them say that and you're like, 'Wow. That's, like...I gotta get up and go to the gym, I gotta get up to go to work. I gotta learn these lines, I gotta work on this accent,'" Boseman admitted. "Seeing how devoted all of my castmates are and knowing that that will be something meaningful to them. To a certain degree, it's a humbling experience, because you're like, 'This can't mean that much to them.'"

There's certainly a lot riding on Black Panther. A lot of Marvel fans are looking forward to the movie not just because it's T'Challa's first standalone film, but it's also the studio's first largely all-black superhero movie.

Black Panther hits theaters this Friday, Feb. 16.
