Chadwick Boseman Explains Black Panther’s “Main Difference” From the Rest of the Avengers

It's been teased in previous Captain America: Civil War interviews how Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther is taking no sides despite the fact that he is fighting for Iron Man.

We already know that the Prince of Wakanda has his own agenda in the grand scheme of things, but in a recent interview with IGN, the 39-year-old actor explains further how exactly T'Challa is different from the rest of the members of the Avengers.

According to Boseman, Black Panther doesn't see himself as a superhero, but rather more of a ruler/politician:

[No one is asking] ‘Who is that masked guy that's doing this stuff?' Everybody knows it's him, and they expect that it's him, and they pray to God, or even him in some cases, that he would do the things that he's doing. Which is much different than most of the superheroes in which you don't know their identity and you don't know when they might show up. There's an expectation that's much different. So that's the main difference.

Unlike the Avengers, who are looked upon as a special protectors who have to wear costumes to hide their identities, in Wakanda, T'Challa is pretty much known as their ruler prince who has to wear the costume to instill fear in his enemies while inspiring hope in his loyal followers.

We reported in February how Black Panther's difference with the Avengers will be what makes him play the most important role in the film – moderator. Even though we see him siding with Iron Man in the film, he could be the key that will make the Avengers stop the war and realize their faults. Since T'Challa is there on personal business, he doesn't have loyalty to any specific team, making him subjective and neutral to both factions. Since Black Panther is a royal title that's been passed to T'Challa in Wakanda, it would be his duty to tame the superhero war and ultimately stop it.

It would be interesting to see how Black Panther would manage to do such a thing, if indeed he will.

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6. Meanwhile, the Black Panther solo film is slated for release on July 6, 2018.
