Is Cell Returning in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero?

The Red Ribbon Army will return in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. The evil organization originally appeared in the Dragon Ball series in the 1980s. In Dragon Ball Z, the Red Ribbon unleashed their vengeance with the help of Dr. Gero and his androids, and now, fans are wondering if the highly-anticipated feature length film featuring Akira Toriyama's creations will also see the return of Cell, one of the most iconic villains in the anime's history.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Cell

Toei Animation already released various for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and now, some fans are speculating that Cell will make a big return in the movie.

Cell was first introduced as a major villain in Dragon Ball Z's Android Saga, traveling back in time from an alternate timeline with the help of Dr. Gero's work. Set to absorb Androids 17 and 18 in order to achieve his perfect form, Cell was a fusion of various heroes and villains from the history of the Z-Fighters and was one of the most powerful villains that Goku and company ever battled against.

The third trailer gave us a glimpse of what appears to be a mysterious villain housed inside a huge sphere tank of some sort. The trailer says that it's "worst existence that has yet to be seen in born". There's no way the movie will just focus on the battle against Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. It's likely that there's a bigger threat inside that sphere tank, and there's a good chance it will be Cell.

On May 27, Toei released the fourth trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and the end of that trailer teases the mysterious villain again. Watch the latest trailer below:

Twitter user @DB_Legends_Jpn tweeted what could be a clue to Cell's return. The release date reflects hex color codes that are purple and green (Cell's primary colors). However, this doesn't seem to be a substantial proof that Cell is in the movie, so take everything here with a grain of salt.

It was revealed that Piccolo will go in an undercover mission to find out what the Red Ribbon Army are up to, and now, more fans are wondering if he will witness the return of Cell.

In April 2022, promos for the movie added fuel to the speculation of Cell's return. One of the promos reveals a new cyborg agent known as "Hachimaru", which is described to have "terrifying abilities", but Toei hasn't revealed additional details about what those abilities could be.

Will Cell return in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero?

Yes, but not exactly the same Cell you know from Dragon Ball Z. Cell will return in the movie in a powerful gigantic form known called Cell Max. According to leaks, Cell Max will be the main villain of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and he will end up fighting the Z-Fighters, including Gohan, who will unleash a powerful new form called "Final Gohan" while fighting him.

One of the latest trailers for the movie already debuted the first official footage of Cell Max.

What could Cell look like if he returns in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero?

The Dragon Ball Super card game also revealed a new Awakened Cell card for the game's new batch of cards. It features art of Cell's new form. Although this doesn't confirm Cell's return in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, it's a good indication that will add fuel to the speculation about the villain's possible return.
