In the Castlevania games, Richter Belmont is a very distant descendant of Trevor Belmont, not his son. They are separated by hundreds of years.

Trevor’s adventures take place in the late 1400s, while Richter’s take place in 1792.

Confusion as to how Richter is related to Trevor occurred when Netflix introduced him as Trevor and Sypha’s son on X (formerly Twitter).

Castlevania Season 4 did end with Sypha pregnant with Trevor’s child, so fans thought that a big part of the Castlevania lore would be changed in the sequel series.

However, Netflix later posted a correction that confirmed that Richter is not Trevor’s son.

Additionally, in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, when Richter meets Alucard, he asks if he’s “the same Alucard who fought my ancestor Trevor Belmont”, which, as he mentions, was “over 300 years ago”.

Therefore, Richter is a distant descendant of Trevor and not his son.

Richter Belmont is a powerful vampire hunter, known as the youngest Belmont to fight Dracula. He was 19 when he first appeared in the 1993 game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood.

Richter has a strong sense of justice and is kind and caring to others. Unfortunately, after defeating Dracula, Richter thought he had no more purpose and felt useless and empty.

This led to him being controlled by the dark priest Shaft. Richter becomes a villain in 1997’s Symphony of the Night and tries to resurrect Dracula so that he can keep fighting him.

To quote Richter: “Dracula rises once a century. One chance for each Belmont to shine, and then we're finished, forgotten. If I bring him back now, the battle can last for eternity!"

After Alucard frees Richter, the latter feels ashamed for what happened. So, Richter disappears from the world and passes the Vampire Killer, his family’s ancestral weapon, to the Morris Clan.

It is uncertain yet if Castlevania: Nocturne will follow what happened in the games.

But when Netflix released the trailer for the spinoff, they mentioned that the series will “feature a never-before-seen origin story of Richter Belmont.”

So, Richter’s origin story in Castlevania: Nocturne is something to look forward to.
