The finale of Season 1 of Amazon Prime Video's steampunk fantasy series, Carnival Row, ended with Imogen Spurnrose and Agreus sailing away from the city, ready to explore a new life as a couple. However, star Tazmin Merchant said that the pair will have some obstacles on the way in Season 2.

Despite their difference, Imogen (Tazmin Mercahnt) and Agreus (David Gyasi) became friends and lovers. However, in the finale of Carnival Row Season 1, the couple are caught in bed together by Imogen's brother Ezra (Andrew Gower). As Agreus tries to protect Imogen from being assaulted by her brother, he inadvertently headbutts him and knocks him down.

Imogen knows that no one will take Agreus' side because of the city's prejudiced opinions of the faun, so the couple gets on the Swan and sails away from the city, hoping that they will find a place where their relationship is expected.

“Imogen and Agreus get on the ship at the end of season 1, and everything is grand for the first five minutes of season 2,” the actress told EW. “And then things go very badly wrong for them.”

Merchant went on to say that Imogen will be humbled much more in Season 2 than she was in the first season.

“What I love about Imogen and just really spoke to me about that character is how much on her high horse she is, and then she gets knocked off her high horse,” Merchant said. “She gets taken down a whole new level by the people she meets in season 2.”

She also said that the second season will continue to focus on morality and social values. “Erik Oleson came on board as showrunner, and his team of writers have been creating some really interesting stories about the moral landscape,” Merchant revealed. “What happens when you build a wall around the ghetto, as they did at the end of season 1, and what happens and what rises out of that.”

Amazon Prime hasn't announced an official release date for Carnival Row Season 2 yet, but production has already wrapped, so it's likely that the highly-anticipated season will be released sometime in 2022. You can check more details about the new season here.
