Amazon Prime Video's fantasy series Carnival Row turned out to be one of Prime Video's underrated gems. Starring Cara Delevingne and Orlando Bloom, the steampunk TV series premiered in August 2019 with eight episodes, and it introduced us to a dark Victorian-style dystopian world shattered by war and species division, but based on the ending, it's clear that its epic tale is far from over. Thankfully, Carnival Row has been renewed for a second season, and fans want to know when they can stream it on Amazon Prime.
Here's everything you need to know about Carnival Row Season 2.
Carnival Row Season 2 production update: Is filming for the new episodes over?
Due to its early renewal in 2019, fans are expecting Carnival Row Season 2 to come out soon, but in the wake of COVID-19 last year, the series had received plenty of setbacks. Production started in November 2019 but was halted in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, when the production crew commenced preparations to resume filming in the first week of May, Amazon had yet to announce an official release date. Soon it was reported that the show was only three weeks away to wrap up the production, which resumed in May 2021 in the Czech Republic to film the remaining scenes which involve Orlando Bloom who was not available last year due to the birth of his first child with Katy Perry. It didn't take much time to conclude filming, but it would take additional time to wrap the post-production for the critically-acclaimed series.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in February 2021, Tamzin Merchant, who plays Imogen Spurnrose in the show, revealed that only five out of eight episodes were wrapped up.
On Aug 7, Cara Delevingne, who plays Vignette Stonemoss, shared behind-the-scenes photosof her pert posterior in nude underwear and a matching harness, teasing the upcoming season.
In September 2021, Orlando Bloom shared a string of photos and bid farewell to his character, Philo, confirming that filming has wrapped for Carnival Row Season 2, but it's unclear if the show is done for good or if Season 3 will happen.
The official Twitter account of Carnival Row also shared first look set photos to celebrate the final day of production for Season 2, teasing the return of Philo and Vignette.
Carnival Row Season 2 release date: When will new episodes come out in Amazon Prime?
At the time of this writing, Amazon Prime Video hasn't announced the release date of Carnival Row Season 2. The first season took almost 17 months to hit the streaming service after wrapping up filming, so if Carnival Row Season 2 follows the same pace, we can expect it to premiere in early 2022. Although filming is already done for the new season, it's highly unlikely that Season 2 will be released in 2021. There is going to be a lot of CGI work that needs to be done, and that will most likely take months to complete. It wouldn't be surprising if Amazon decides to release the series mid to late 2022.
Amazon hasn't announced if Carnival Row Season 2 will get a weekly release date. That's something the media giant has moved into with The Boys and The Expanse.

On August 27, 2021, Deadline reported that Jamie Harris has been promoted to series regular for Season 2, and will reprise his role as Sergeant Dombey, the tough police officer in the neo-Victorian city who resents the growing infllux of foreign fairies and pix, so expect to see him play a bigger role in Season 2.
Newcomers Alice Krige, Ariyon Bakare, and Maeve Dermody will join, as well as Jamie Harris, James Beumont, and Waj Ali are set to appear in Season 2.
Carnival Row Season 2 plot: What can we expect?
Amazon Prime Video hasn't revealed the official synopsis for Carnival Row Season 2; however, based on the ending of Season 1, it's likely that we will find out more about the segregation. In the last episode of Season 1, the government ordered a segregation plan to divide the magical creatures from the rest of the people. Knowing that Vignette would be separated from him, Philo confronted that he too is half magical creature so he decided to join her in the ghetto.
Elsewhere, Agreus and Imogen sailed away to a safer place in the finale of Season 1. However, they refused to go back when the authorities ordered their ship to return.
Tazmin Merchant, who plays Imogen, teased what's ahead for her character and Agreus in Season 2.
“Imogen and Agreus get on the ship at the end of season 1, and everything is grand for the first five minutes of season 2,” the actress told EW. “And then things go very badly wrong for them.”
It's likely that Season 2 will see the couple take on a more adventurous path, but there are going to be obstacles ahead. Hopefully, this plot will eventually merge with Philo and Vignette's.
