Captain Marvel Projected To Fly Higher During Second Weekend At The Box Office

Captain Marvel might have been troubled by review bombs before and after its premiere, but the film has still managed to fly higher, faster, and further at the box office.

Earning more than $150 million in North America during its first three days in cinemas, Captain Marvel managed to accumulate more than $400 million during its opening weekend. Now, analysts expect the film to bring in even more during its second weekend.

According to a report by Deadline,Captain Marvel is expected to bring in more than $70 million from the North American box office when it makes its second weekend. Not only does the film have the power of inclusivity and representation to back it up, but it also has very little in terms of competition. The only film's opening this Friday are smaller movies like Wonder Park, Five Feet Apart, and Captive State – movies that aren't really expected to make a big splash at the box office.

Captain Marvel should start worrying when Jordan Peele's Us releases on March 22 and DC's Shazam! flies into cinemas on April 5.

Right now though, Captain Marvel is riding high, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige couldn't be happier. Many expect Captain Marvel to lead the the franchise after the third phase of the MCU – after all, who will take Captain America's place once Chris Evans retires from the role?

A sequel to Captain Marvel is pretty certain given the film's success, and we can't wait to see whether Marvel does any better with Captain Marvel 2.

Captain Marvel is currently screening in cinemas.
