Captain Marvel Is Being Review Bombed Before Its Release

Marvel fans might be excited to see Captain Marvel's (Brie Larson) debut on the big screen, however, it seems like some internet trolls have started trashing Captain Marvel on Rotten Tomatoes just before Marvel's first female-led standalone movie makes its way to cinemas in a few weeks.

Rotten Tomatoes already has Captain Marvel's audience reviews up and running and it looks like the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe entry has been flooded with angry "reviews" where the site's user go on and on trashing the film for being focused on a female superhero.

While there have been some genuine reviews expressing excitement over the Marvel entry, there are comments calling Captain Marvel a sexist film for quite a number of ridiculous reasons. This includes the gender of the film's protagonist, Larson's campaign that sends underprivileged girls to see her film, and the alleged "social justice warrior" atmosphere of the movie.

Pop culture fans might find that these reviews echo the same kind of sentiment that traditional Star Wars fans expressed during the release of the subversive but also divisive sequel trilogy entry, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

This isn't the first time that Marvel experienced some kind of sabotage attempt online. Last year, there was a palpable organized effort made with false negative reviews in an attempt to attack Black Panther.

Now it looks like this same kind of people are after Captain Marvel, hoping to bring the film down before it releases this year. Of course, this attack won't change anything much. Captain Marvel is still one of the most highly anticipated films of 2019 and the film's box office tracking has been exceptional. There's no doubt that Captain Marvel will win.

Captain Marvel premieres on March 8, 2019.
