Captain Marvel Directors Tease Possible Cameo from Tony Stark

Captain Marvel will already be showcasing some familiar MCU characters like Nick Fury, Phil Coulson, and Ronan the Accuser, but it's possible that we're actually getting an appearance from the franchise's first Avenger, Tony Stark.

Talking to Fandango, this was the exchange of both directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck:

Boden: All we can say is this is a '90s film, a '90s period film. Where Sam Jackson is a younger version of Nick Fury.

Fleck: And Tony Stark hasn't figured out how to become Iron Man yet, so ...

Boden: That's all we can say.

While it isn't really confirmation that Tony Stark will make a cameo, I have a feeling that he'll appear in one form or another. The original Iron Man film had some fake magazine covers featuring Tony Stark and Obadiah Stane; I would be impressed if the movie managed to dig those up and have them appear in the film.

Considering that film takes place in the 90s, maybe we can see someone reading a magazine about how Tony Stark will be taking over Stark Industries. The elder Starks were killed off in 1991, and 1995 seems like a good time for Tony to start digging his roots in the company.

That's as far as my speculation goes.

The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, "Captain Marvel" is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Captain Marvel comes to theaters March 8.
