Captain Marvel and Jordan Peele's US Share A Unique Easter Egg

Universal Pictures

This past weekend, Jordan Peele's horror film Us broke horror box office records with a $70 million domestic debut, dethroning Captain Marvel since its release. However, box office success is not the only thing these two films have in common. They also share a connection that fans may have not noticed right away.

Captain Marvel and Jordan Peele's Us showed a VHS copy of the 1983 film The Right Stuff, a historical drama film about the Mercury 7 astronauts. Captain Marvel showed the Easter Egg in an early scene in the film: when Carol Danvers first returns to Earth and falls through the roof of a Blockbuster. She is seen walking through the aisles of VHS tapes and examines TheRight Stuff after she looks at the pilots on the cover.

In Jordan Peele's horror film, we can find the VHS copy of The Right Stuff in an early scene: when the young Adelaide in 1986 is watching a commercial for Hands Across America on TV. There are some VHC tapes sitting on the shelves on either side of the TV, and one of them is The Right Stuff.

It's interesting that both movies actually share some plot elements with The Right Stuff so the filmmakers probably put them in those films for a reason other than being a popular film during the '80s.

Captain Marvel and Us are now showing in theaters.
