Jordan Peele Confirms 'Us' Has A Clever 'Lost Boys' Easter Egg

There is little doubt that Us managed to terrify millions of people over the last week in fear that the Tethered are everywhere. Interestingly, the film had another doppelganger that most of us missed. Director Jordan Peele has just confirmed that the movie actually featured a tribute to another horror flick The Lost Boys.

Peele recently spoke to Uproxx about Us where he revealed that the film was shot in Santa Cruz, the same location where The Lost Boys was filmed. Needless to say, the Get Out director couldn't resist slipping a Lost Boys Easter egg into his own movie.

"We shot in Santa Cruz and the first scene of our movie is there. It's the same beach, it's the same amusement park. And it's even 1986. There is a reference to The Lost Boys shooting by the carousel. They're walking down the Santa Monica boardwalk and the mother says, ‘You know they're shooting a movie over there by the carousel,'" Peele said.

This certainly makes sense because The Lost Boys was filmed in 1986 before being released the following year. Needless to say, it sounds like Santa Cruz has its own doppelganger known as Santa Carla. Or is it the other way around?

It's great to know that Us had an unexpected Easter egg. For now, it's still unclear if the upcoming Lost Boys TV series will also be filmed in Santa Cruz.

Us, which stars Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, and Elizabeth Moss, is currently screening in theaters worldwide. The Lost Boys series has not yet been given an official premiere date but is expected to air on The CW in 2020.
