Captain Marvel 2: Which Villain is Zawe Ashton Playing in MCU Sequel?

Captain Marvel 2 has found its new villain in Zawe Ashton. But which comic book baddie is the Velvet Buzzsaw star playing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel?

Deadline confirmed that Ashton is joining the cast of Captain Marvel 2, which will bring back Brie Larson as Carol Danvers. Although the identity of Ashton's character was not revealed, the report pointed out that she will play the main villain.

Not surprisingly, there are already speculations about who Ashton is playing in the MCU sequel. Some fans have even pointed out that the actress will portray a gender-bent baddie from the comic books, similar to what the first film have done to Mar-Vell.

For now, the Captain Marvel 2 villain has not yet been revealed. However, there is a huge possibility that Ashton has been cast as Karla Sofen aka Moonstone. In the comics, Karla is a former psychologist who gets her powers from Kree technology. This makes her just as powerful as Carol herself.

But that's not the only reason why Moonstone could be the main villain in Captain Marvel 2. The character also happens to have a connection to Baron Zemo, who has already been confirmed to be in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

We're loving the idea of seeing Ashton as Moonstone in Captain Marvel 2. However, it is important to point out that her role in the film has not yet been announced so it's best to take this with a grain of salt.

Captain Marvel 2 will be directed by Nia DaCosta and will also star WandaVision actress Teyonah Parris and Miss Marvel's Iman Vellani. The film is scheduled for release on November 11, 2022.
