A recent report has claimed that the reshoots of Captain America: Brave New World are resulting in the budget for the MCU title ballooning beyond all expectations.
The upcoming MCU film is currently undergoing yet another round of reshoots to add more action sequences and Giancarlo Esposito's mysterious character. It was previously scheduled for release this summer before it moved to early next year.
While reshoots have become a norm for MCU projects post-pandemic, Brave New World's case is exceptional and has raised some eyebrows as rumors are claiming that it is getting poor test scores and the script was significantly rewritten prior to the additional photography.
Captain America: Brave New World Massive Budget Reportedly Revealed
Captain America: Brave New World's budget has skyrocketed to $350-375 million due to the ongoing reshoots, according to a recent report.
Citing an alleged insider, the reshoots have cost Marvel Studios and Disney anywhere between $75-100 million and it is described as "like they’re shooting a brand new movie.”
So far, Marvel Studios has not confirmed the claims that were made in the report so naturally, it's best to take this one with a huge grain of salt.
A few weeks ago, a report from a major outlet laid out the details of Brave New World's reshoots which is seemingly in contrast with this new scoop as they claimed that the film's budget is significantly less than The Marvels (estimated around $219-278 million).
With the underwhelming reception of their recent releases, Marvel Studios is currently at a crucial stage where their upcoming films need to be box-office successes to solidify their continuing dominance in the theatrical space.
Disney is also taking cost-cutting measures at the moment which makes the massive budget for the reshoots unlikely as they may not have allowed Marvel to spend too much for additional photography.
Whether the film had a massive budget or not thanks to the reshoots, one thing that we can certainly say is that Brave New World needs to be a major box-office hit, especially since it is Sam Wilson's first solo movie as Captain America and he is seen as one of the key players of the current MCU.
Captain America: Brave New World is slated for release in theaters on February 14, 2025.
