Capcom Announces Upcoming Mega Man Live-Action Movie

Mega Man 11 has just dropped, and now Capcom is keeping up to the hype by announcing that a Mega Man live-action movie is in the works. The movie is going to be distributed by 20th Century Fox and has Paranormal Activity directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman at the helm.

Here's the official announcement (via Nintendo Everything):

The feature film, tentatively titled MEGA MAN, will be written and directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman and is scheduled to be distributed by 20th Century Fox. Chernin Entertainment, responsible for the Planet of the Apes series, will be producing it with Masi Oka, of Heroes fame. Based on the influential and globally beloved Mega Man franchise, Capcom aims to appeal to a diverse audience, including not only game players but action movie fans as well, with an adaptation that maintains the world of the Mega Man games, while incorporating the grand production and entertainment value that Hollywood movies are known for.

We don't have that many details on the movie yet, but looking at the directors' resume, it's possible that this film could come out as some kind of gritty reboot. Then again, Jon Watts was known for his work on horror before he signed on to helm Spider-Man: Homecoming and that movie ended up very kid-friendly.

If you ask me, the world of Mega Man might work better as an animated movie not too different from Wreck-It Ralph. The world does have its own colorful lore, and I think more people would be interested in watching an animated Mega Man go up against cartoon villains like Doctor Wily and his minions as compared to a grown man in an armored suit.

That's just my opinion anyway.

No release date has been announced for the Mega Man live-action movie.
