While Winter 2023’s most anticipated shows skew towards action, Campfire Cooking in Another World is standing out as the comfort anime of the season. This is what many viewers said following the release of Episode 1.
Announced back in October, Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill premiered yesterday, and many were surprised to find out how enjoyable the show is despite its absurd premise.
Spoiler Warning: There are spoilers for Campfire Cooking in Another World Episode 1 in this article.
Campfire Cooking in Another World: MAPPA’s First Isekai
In charge of production is renowned anime studio MAPPA, a surprising fact to many considering that the studio is best known for animating action-heavy works such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man.
Campfire Cooking in Another World is the studio’s first big anime of the year, and it’s airing alongside another MAPPA work, Vinland Saga Season 2.
Despite being animated by the same studio, the two shows couldn’t be farther from each other.
This anime is also an interesting one for fans of the studio’s work as this is MAPPA’s first isekai anime.
Though Campfire Cooking is far from a serious isekai as it features a funny twist on the typical genre premise.
The anime follows Tsuyoshi Mukoda who is transported into another world. But unlike other isekai protagonists, his ability is rather absurd, as it allows him to buy food and other items from an online Japanese supermarket.

Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill Episode 1 Fan Reactions
The first episode doesn’t really explain how Mukoda got transported and why he has such a weird skill. Though he is soon able to use it to cook up some delicious food that impresses an adventurer party he hired.
His delicious cooking soon attracts a Fenrir who offers to become his familiar in exchange for getting three meals a day.
The focus on food impressed a lot of viewers, especially those who are looking for a chill and comfy anime to watch.
Based on the Reddit discussion thread and Twitter reactions, it seems that Campfire Cooking in Another World has the potential to be a big hit.
The only knock on it so far is how hungry it can make viewers who watch it on an empty stomach.
New episodes of Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill are released every week on Crunchyroll.
