After Call the Midwife Season 11 Episode 7, the fates of two cherished characters were left hanging. In the last minutes of the May 1 episode, a tragic accident shocked the Poplar community, leading viewers to worry if they'll be saying goodbye to two familiar faces in the upcoming finale.

Tragedy shakes the community in Call the Midwife Season 11 Episode 7

At first glance, Sunday's Call the Midwife Season 11 Episode 7 appeared to be business as usual. Sister Frances (Ella Bruccoleri) attempted to help a young adolescent in adjusting to motherhood, only to discover she was carrying another child. Nurse Corrigan (Megan Cusack) struggled to balance her new responsibilities at Nonnatus House with time for her daughter.

Sister Hilda (Fenella Woolgar) looked after a pregnant woman who was going through a difficult pregnancy. And Doctor Turner (Stephen McGann) got into an argument with his son Timothy (Max Macmillan), who was home from school.

Dr. Turner, Nurse Corrigan, and Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) spent the day at a midwifery conference near the end of Call the Midwife Season 11 Episode 7. On their way home, though, things took an unexpected turn. The engineer, who was Sister Hilda's patient's husband, appeared to have had a stroke or seizure. As a result, he failed to come to a complete stop at a red light.

His fast train crashed with another train a few moments later. Multiple persons in the train were critically hurt in the accident, which occurred on a bridge that runs through the Poplar neighborhood. It also wreaked havoc in the nearby streets.

Potential character deaths in Call the Midwife Season 11 Episode 7

Nurse Corrigan had walked to another carriage to use the lavatory just moments before the disaster. She was beaten and badly shaken but otherwise unscathed when the accident occurred. Another passenger assisted her in getting off the train.

Nancy, who was becoming increasingly agitated, attempted to return to check on her friends. The good samaritan, however, warned her that it wasn't safe.

Call the Midwife Season 11 Episode 7 ended on a dramatic cliffhanger. In the more severely damaged carriage, both Dr. Turner and Sister Julienne were unconscious. It was unclear whether they had survived the accident.

The consequences of the incident will be explored in the Call the Midwife season finale next week. While everyone is concerned about their friends and colleagues, Timothy's father had a serious dispute with him before he went to the conference, and the news that Dr. Turner was implicated was especially painful.

Call the Midwife Season 11 Episode 8 airs Sunday, May 8 at 8 p.m. ET on PBS.
