California Pays $12.6 Million Tax Credits For Birds of Prey

It looks like California loves Harley Quinn, at least they do in movie form. According to Variety, Warner Bros.' upcoming Birds of Prey movie will be receiving a $12.6 Million tax credits. The film is expected to spend $63 Million whilst shooting there, so it seems like a good deal was made to shoot the Harley Quinn-spinoff here.

According to the news site, this will be the most a film company has spent on the state, hence the huge amount of tax credits. Considering how Suicide Squad made a ton of money due to Harley's popularity, it seems like the studio is confident on spending this much since they will likely make that back and then some.

Funnily enough, Harley was never in The Birds of Prey in the comic books but it will be fun to see how she is integrated into the group. Plus, adaptations should always strive to do new things from the source material. After all, who just wants to watch the comic book?

Birds of Prey is one of 19 feature films that have been chosen to receive California tax credits, this year totaling $52.2m. The California Film Commision has given tax credits in the past to Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel. Directed by Cathy Yan, the Margot Robbie-led film has not been publicly scheduled for theatrical release.
