What Is Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 About?

For the uninitiated, Bungo Stray Dogs follows a quirky detective agency whose members have supernatural powers.

But there's a catch, as each member of the agency is named after a famous Japanese author, including Osamu Dazai, Atsushi Nakajima, Ryonosuke Akutagawa, and others.

Each of the characters has a power that is related to their respective author's body of work, making for interesting intertextual elements.

In later episodes, the agency is faced with foreign detective forces based on writers such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Lucy Maud Montgomery, among many others.

Season 4, in particular, is expected to focus on the aftermath of the manga's Cannibalism arc (which was covered in its entirety in Season 3).

As such, in Season 4, we expect to follow Ranpo Edogawa in his attempt to free Doppo Kunikida from prison, after the latter was wrongfully framed for murder.

The Cannibalism Aftermath arc of the manga is very short. From there on, we expect Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 to shift its focus to the manga's Hunting Dogs arc.

In it, the Armed Detective Agency is framed as a terrorist group, and a military unit, the titular Hunting Dogs, starts pursuing the agency members.

A new key visual has also been released. In it, we see Atsushi Nakajima, Akiko Yosano, Doppo Kunikida, and other members of the Armed Detective Agency fighting the members of Hunting Dogs.

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 will be available to watch on Crunchyroll for international audiences.

The fourth season of the fantasy anime was discussed at the 2022 Crunchyroll Expo, in a conversation with studio Bones president Masahiko Minami and Kadokawa producer Chiaki Kurakane.

Previously, Bungo Stray Dogs was also available on Funimation. However, after the Crunchyroll merger, the series is less likely to appear there as most people have already moved to Crunchyroll, which is now going to host most classic and new anime series.
