Bumblebee Director Shuts Down Rumors About Joining Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

It seems like the search for a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director continues, as Marvel is still trying to fill the void they made when James Gunn was fired. So far, no announcements have been made about a possible replacement, though there were rumors about Bumblebee director Travis Knight being involved, it seems like that will not be happening as Knight has just shut them down.

During an interview with Bad Taste, Knight was outright asked about his involvement with the MCU project and he denied this. Apparently, the director is more interested in returning to the world of animation with Laika, the same studio that allowed him to direct the Academy Award-nominated Kubo and the Two Strings.

"After Bumblebee, my goal is to return to work at the animation studios Laika, my 'child' bringing with me all the baggage of experiences I have gained with this project. I'm a huge fan of what Marvel did, it's no surprise for anyone to know that as a child I was a huge fan of comics. But no, it's just a rumor!"

While Knight admits to being a big Marvel Comics fan, he says that his supposed involvement is just a rumor. Still, it would have been nice seeing him involved since a lot of people really liked his work on Kubo. Here is hoping that his work on the upcoming Bumblebee movie is great and turns the tide for the poorly-received Transformers franchise.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was supposed to come out sometime in 2020 but the movie has been delayed and is currently stuck in development hell. Marvel and Disney have been pretty unsuccessful in their pursuit to find a replacement for Gunn, who is now penning a sequel to Suicide Squad.

Bumblebee comes out later this month.
