The issue of weight loss, diet and health remain controversial topics in the K-pop world. So when BTS’s RM gave the latest update about his health, it quickly sparked conversations about the beauty standards in South Korea.

BTS has been preparing for their three-day Permission to Dance on Stage – Seoul concert and working hard to perfect their performance. But aside from rehearsing, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook also make sure they are in great shape and are doing it through working out and dieting. So, how rigorous do these boys exercise?

The Rigorous Workout of BTS

In a post on Instagram Story two weeks before their concert, RM revealed his exercise routine composed of an intense mix of cardio and strength training. He does biking, rowing, burpees and more.

Before the concert, he used to weigh 76kg or 167.5lbs. Now, according to Koreaboo, he only weighs 74kg or 163lbs, losing about two kilograms in an instant.

RM revealed his new weight in another post on Instagram Story, calling it, “concert diet.” With that said, fans started to worry about his weight, saying it was too low for his height.

However, others defended the rapper, revealing it was only normal to lose a few pounds after rigorous physical activity.

They are confident RM knows what is right for his body, maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine that benefits his highly athletic lifestyle as an idol.

Though many may envy RM for his rapid weight loss, others use him as an inspiration to shed off the extra pounds. Anyhow, one diet does not apply to many and one has to choose the perfect diet that will perfectly work on them.

The Issue of Weight Loss and Body Positivity in the K-Pop World

The South Korean boy band Great Guys revealed being K-pop idols come with strict gym schedules, diets and forced “singledom,” which are all far from the glitz and glamour of their lives on stage.

Ho Ryeong told Insider they could only go to the gym, studio and bedrooms, especially when preparing for new music.

"Honestly, we don't have much time for eating," he added. "Nor are we free to eat what we want."

Jae I agreed and said it was the “hardest part.” “It's not easy to follow a diet, but [I suppose] it's not impossible either,” he revealed.

This just proved the pressure they have been going through to maintain the intense beauty standards the K-pop world has. Idols have to look and stay beautiful no matter what.
