Bruce Timm Wants The Next Animated DC Movie To Be Red Son Superman

Though the DCEU may not be as great as fans want it to be, Warner Bros animation has been releasing a lot of great adaptations for comics with their DC animated movies. We already have animated adaptations of The Dark Knight Returns, The Flashpoint Paradox, and The Killing Joke; and DC animation legend Bruce Timm says he already has another comic he wants to adapt.

During a Q&A session at the premiere of Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, Timm revealed (via ComicBook) that he was interested in doing a Superman: Red Son movie. Just like Gaslight, Red Son is a parallel DC universe where Superman landed in Soviet Russia instead of America.

The comic is one of the most beloved by fans, counting that it comes from the legendary Mark Millar, the same writer behind Marvel classics like Civil War and Old Man Logan. He's also the genius behind properties like Kick-Ass and Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Here's the official synopsis for the comic:

SUPERMAN: RED SON is a vivid tale of Cold War paranoia, that reveals how the ship carrying the infant who would later be known as Superman lands in the midst of the 1950s Soviet Union. Raised on a collective, the infant grows up and becomes a symbol to the Soviet people, and the world changes drastically from what we know – bringing Superman into conflict with Batman, Lex Luthor and many others."

We don't know just when we could get a Red Son movie, but you can catch the next DC animated film, Gotham by Gaslight, when it comes out on digital Jan. 23.
