While everyone and their grandmother is currently talking about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Marvel fans are currently waiting for Black Widow, the second female-led MCU film starring Scarlett Johansson. The fact that it took this long just to make a solo Black Widow film has a lot of people wondering why they only made it now, especially since we know she dies in Avengers: Endgame.
Even more interesting is the fact that Captain Marvel, the first female-led Marvel movie, has yet to have a sequel announced, despite the praise it has received and all the money it made. Brie Larson, the film's lead star, was recently asked about the lack of a Captain Marvel 2 and even she doesn't know if one is being made.
Larson had this to say to Variety:
"No. I don't really know what job I'm going to do next, which is very exciting. I don't even know what my life's gonna be! And most of this year, you know, I had to do the press tour [for Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame and Just Mercy]. But then the last half of the year, I've just been focusing way more on just doing what I want to do that's completely outside of my job."
The fact that Larson isn't even 30 yet shows that she has a long career ahead of her. We know that the actress has signed a multi-year deal with Marvel Studios but the lack of Captain Marvel 2 announcements is incredibly disappointing. Yeah, the first film was average at best but it did have a couple of creative moments and a sequel could improve on so many of its faults.
No word on a Captain Marvel 2 release date just yet. In the meantime, Captain Marvel can now be seen on Blu-ray, DVD, and the Disney+ streaming service.
