A lot of people were excited when it was announced that Danny Boyle would be directing the 25th Bond movie, but were surprised when the director left the project due to creative differences. As it turns out, the studio wouldn't agree with Boyle's choice to kill off Daniel Craig's James Bond.

An LA source told Daily Star:

"Boyle thought that killing 007 would be a brilliant way to pave the way for introducing a new Bond… But when the dust settled there was push back from [producer Barbara Broccoli] and Daniel [Craig]. The feeling was that the audience should be left guessing as to the plight of their man."

We should take this as a rumor for now, but I can imagine the death of Bond is a plausible rift that Boyle and the studio could have disagreed on.

With so many people taking on the role over the past few decades, there's a fan theory going around that I think Boyle was trying to hint at. The theory states that James Bond was not the name of the actual spy, but a given codename—explaining why Bond has many different faces over the years. You could even say that Ralph Fiennes taking the role of M from Judi Dench in Skyfall was kind of foreshadowing—should the studio have gone this direction.

We don't know what's in store for director Cary Fukunaga's Bond 25, but I imagine he has a creative solution in introducing the new Bond while sending off Daniel Craig's.

Bond 25 has no official title yet, but the film is set to come out April 8, 2020.
